Charity run for the Cystic Fibrosis Association

16.05.2026

We are supporting the 2026 Ortenau Guardian Angel Run with a donation of €200 for the running group from the Wolfach Schools.

€200 donation for the Wolfach Vocational Schools’ running group

At the Ortenau Guardian Angel Run in Zell am Harmersbach, pupils, clubs and businesses are running for a good cause. Every year, this charity run supports the Ortenau regional branch of Mukoviszidose e.V., which works to help those affected by cystic fibrosis and their families.

The teaching staff at the Wolfach Vocational Schools have launched a fantastic initiative: a motivated running group of pupils took part in the Schutzengellauf to clock up as many kilometres as possible – and thereby raise funds for Mukoviszidose e.V. To further motivate the young people, Wolfach-based businesses such as ours, which are dual partners of the schools, were asked to act as sponsors. As a company with deep roots in Wolfach, it is important to us to support local projects – especially when they empower young people whilst also supporting social institutions.

We are delighted to support the Wolfach Vocational Schools this year with a donation of €200. We have decided to donate more than the suggested amount to give the campaign even stronger backing. The entire sum will go directly to Mukoviszidose e.V. Ortenau – with no deductions. In this way, together with the pupils, we are making a contribution to supporting people living with this serious metabolic disorder.

The BS Wolfach team accounted for 30 of the 1,573 runners who took to the starting line on Saturday in perfect running weather. According to the club, this was a record number of participants! Together, they covered an incredible 18,321 kilometres on the 1.5-kilometre circuit through Zell – equivalent to 12,214 laps around the town centre.

What is cystic fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is the most common inherited metabolic disorder in Germany. Around 5% of the population carry the defective gene without developing the condition themselves. Around 8,000 children and young people live with this incurable hereditary disease.

The cause is a genetic defect that leads to organs such as the lungs and digestive tract producing thick mucus. As a result, the lungs are not cleared properly, causing recurrent pneumonia which destroys lung tissue over the long term. The pancreas is also affected, causing severe digestive problems and underweight. Problems often begin in infancy and can lead to failure to thrive.

There is currently no cure, but modern treatments now enable patients to live significantly longer and better lives. For many sufferers, however, an organ transplant remains their last hope – yet there are far too few donor organs available, meaning they must endure an agonising and, sadly, sometimes fatal wait.

About the Ortenau Regional Group

The group is a network of affected families dedicated to raising awareness of cystic fibrosis, improving treatment for the disease and supporting those affected. Donations, together with the national and Baden-Württemberg regional associations, are channelled into research projects aimed at finding a cure in the long term.
