Pupils paint the apprentices' insect hotels

17.05.2022

An eventful day out in nature for Class 3a, featuring art and a talk on insects and plants.

The 21 pupils from Class 3a at Herlinsbach School in Wolfach spent an exciting and varied morning on our company premises. The pupils, led by their class teacher Michaela Streblow and art teacher Sarah Breithaupt, explored our flower meadow, learnt a lot about insects and were able to work directly on two insect hotels that had been built by our trainees themselves. Klio’s managing director, Edeltraud Syllwasschy, was also delighted to see how eagerly and enthusiastically the pupils set to work.

Two large, colourful works of art were then created under the shade of deciduous trees. Our colleagues Irene Gruhle and Anna Bayer had prepared paints and materials so that the children could get creative straight away. The resulting pictures beautifully reflected the early summer’s day with its flowering meadows, insects and bright blue sky.

In the common room, the pupils also gained fascinating insights into the world of insects. Angelika Kalmbach-Ruf from BUND Ortenau-Kinzigtal explained vividly just how diverse and fascinating butterflies, beetles, wild bees and other insects are. The children were fascinated to see which species live there and why such sanctuaries are so important. They also contributed a great deal of their own knowledge and showed great enthusiasm.
